Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether ego-resilience significantly predicted critical thinking dispositions, learning styles, and academic adjustment among college students.
Methods: The data was collected from Dec. 16, 2008 to Feb. 10, 2009. The subjects were 548 college students in 6 cities in Korea. To determine the most effective variable of ego-resilience to critical thinking dispositions, learning styles, and academic adjustment, data was analyzed by canonical correlation using SAS 9.1 TS.
Results: Canonical correlation analysis revealed that the confidence among 4 sub-domains of ego-resilience made the most outstanding contribution in predicting disposition of critical thinking. An optimistic attitude was the most outstanding contribution in predicting both learning styles and academic adjustment.
Conclusion: The results suggest that the development of ego-resilience for undergraduate students is important for improving disposition of critical thinking, a positive learning style, and academic adjustment. Especially confidence and optimistic attitudes should be included in structuring the nursing education system.
